I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how God uses people and also about who God uses. It’s a little confusing to me.
It should be said that God certainly has no need of people to accomplish His will since God has no need at all. He could, and sometimes does, act without any human instrumentality. Even insurance companies sometimes acknowledge this with a clause in their coverage that references “an Act of God”. Most of the time, these “acts” are negative and destructive, which I think is a little bit prejudiced toward the Lord who is, you know, good.
But for some reason that often escapes me, God chooses to use people. Maybe He does this because He wants to maintain and grow a connection with Himself. Maybe He does it because He has a sense of humor.
What I’ve been thinking about lately is that who God uses is up to Him. Not only that, but it sure does seem like He likes to by-pass certain high profile individuals in favor of those who might be what you’d call ordinary.
I like that, because that means that the supply of usable individuals is very large. And besides, most days the most ordinary person I know is me.
